Pioneering New DDR4 Industrial-grade Wide-temperature Server Memory

To Enhance Survivability for Both Indoor and Outdoor Servers

Following the patented DDR4 anti-sulfuration server memory, Apacer, a global leader in industrial storage and memory, announces a DDR4 industrial-grade wide-temperature server memory module, continuing to enhance the survivability of server memory. This product is ideal for emerging server markets that have to deal with severe temperature swings, such as rugged outdoor servers and edge systems, mobile edge computing, outdoor telecommunications equipment such as 5G RAN applications and pole-mounted server platforms, and can help improve the availability of server equipment.

According to DIGITIMES Research, as existing cloud demand increases as expected, the COVID-19 pandemic will drive the demand for online services even higher. In the second quarter of 2020, global server shipments are expected to increase by 15.8%. In recent years, the rise of AIoT has driven the deployment of outdoor servers and edge systems closer to their data sources to improve transmission, computing efficiency, or save bandwidth. Outdoor server applications are becoming more diverse, and server applications are no longer limited to running in environmentally controlled, fully equipped indoor computer rooms. The server equipment, which is usually operating non-stop for 24 hours, generates a lot of waste heat during operation, which will cause the server’s interior to be a high-temperature environment for a long time. Once it is in an outdoor environment with long-term exposure or extreme temperature changes, the threat to server memory data transmission performance and the impact on stability cannot be underestimated. Not only may key data be lost, but in severe cases, it may even cause system crashes and damage.

Apacer’s DDR4 industrial-grade wide-temperature server memory module is made from carefully selected industrial-grade materials, including industrial-grade wide temperature ICs from original manufacturers. This is a significant distinction from inferior products on the market, made from commercial-grade ICs using the sorting method. Apacer’s module is also equipped with a gold finger design with high resistance to plugging, environmental corrosion resistance, and a gold plating thickness of 30u. It also employs high-temperature-resistant registers and passive components, which greatly improve the stability and reliability of server memory in extreme temperature environments. A built-in thermal sensor for monitoring the memory temperature in real time effectively prevents the risk of overheating. Not surprisingly, this memory module has passed strict high temperature and long-term dynamic burn-in tests with flying colors before leaving the factory. Potential early failure problems were eliminated early so as to maintain the highest standards of quality.

Apacer has extensive experience in R&D, manufacturing and testing, and works with many vertical market customers to develop wide-temperature memory modules. The DDR4 industrial-grade wide-temperature server memory module can fulfill the survivability demand and is already serving dutifully in both indoor and outdoor applications, including everything from data centers to defense and healthcare applications. The first wave of server modules will include capacities from 4 to 16GB, a maximum speed of DDR4 2666 MT/s, support for VLP board size and anti-sulfuration technology.
